Despite parliamentary support to the contrary there is currently no formal system which forces hairdressers operating in the United Kingdom to register with a professional body which ensures that a minimum standard of practice is adhered to.
Unfortunately, this has led to numerous instances where people have suffered serious injuries in the course of getting their hair cut or styled. Chemical burns, scarring, permanent hair loss and severe allergic reactions are all a possibility if you are unlucky enough to visit a hairdresser who has not been properly trained and regulated.
Whilst these injuries are rare, precautions should nonetheless be taken. We outlined a step by step guide in our blog from 2011 on claims for personal injuries suffered at a hairdressing salon and the precautions that can be taken to prevent such injuries from taking place.
It is certainly not unreasonable to expect to return from a trip to the hairdresser without injury. All hairstylists owe a duty of care to their customers and that duty is undoubtedly in breach if a serious injury is suffered during the course of a treatment.
If you have suffered an injury as a result of an incompetent hairdresser or beauty therapist we are able to provide the legal advice you need to pursue a hairdresser claims and arrange the corrective treatment you may require to feel yourself again. Call our team on to discuss your case further.
